I am pleased to share the publication of my chapter on Rachid Bouchareb in The Art of Directing: A Concise Dictionary of France’s Film Directors, edited by Michaël Abecassis and published by Peter Lang. This contribution gave me the opportunity to revisit Bouchareb’s work as a major site for thinking about cinema, migration, memory, and Franco-Algerian histories. His films move across national, linguistic, and historical borders, making them especially important for understanding how French cinema represents colonial legacies, diasporic experience, and contested forms of belonging. The chapter also extends my broader interest in visual culture and in the ways film can open new conversations about mobility, identity, and historical transmission.
